Statement of Konishi Koi Farms Re: Recent finding of KHV in common carp in Japan.
Konishi Koi Farms, being aware of the extent of infection and the damage caused in ornamental koi carp (Nishikigoi) in countries outside of Japan, instigated a regime of testing for KHV in all of its fish stocks First tests were taken on 15th October 2002, and in all the tests to date negative results have been received on the KHV test performed by the Prefectural Fisheries Laboratory of Hiroshima using standard international PCR methodology.
Also introduced were a number of common sense and preventative measures in the every day running of the farm operation.
These include restrictions in movement of Koi into the farm in such a way as to ensure that in the event of infection this would be limited to the retail facility in Hiroshima City.
No fish being moved from the outside into the farm. Since the conclusive discovery of KHV in Kasumigaura Lake in Ibaragi prefecture in mid-September, Konishi Koi Farms has increased vigilance on its Koi stocks and is arranging a higher frequency of testings.
This is being performed to safeguard the Konishi Koi Farm bloodlines and the welfare of its customers worldwide.
