Various types of ponds
There are lots of ponds in Japan, but none of them is probably the same. What kind of pond you want to build is linked closely with the structure of your houses, the size of the pond, the localities, and the weather. If you have a large garden, you can build a Japanese-style pond with stones arranged around the pond. If you have a turfed garden, you can build a square westem-style pond. Everything is up to your tastes.
Some of you may have no pond, but you don't have to worry about it. There is a FRP pond available at the balcony. The tempered PVC-made FRP pond is equipped with a filter tank and an aquarium. The ponds of different size is also available. It can accommodate a koi as large as 30 to 40 cm. There are some who keep a more than 50 cm-long-koi in it.
The glass aquarium is popular as one of interior ornaments. Commonly the aquarium system for tropical fish is substituted for the one for the koi. An aquarium system for both tropical fish and for the koi is also available. Any of them is functionally perfect.
What is an ideal pond?
The shape and the size of the pond varies with various circumstances. First. the pond is to be exposed to the sun for at least three to five hours a day and to be protected from the evening sun. Though the size of the pond varies with that of the koi and that of the garden, 80cm or so is the minimum depth for the pond. Secondly, a rectangular pond with its corners round off is consid-ered to be the most manageable shape. Because that shape prevents the water from being stagnant and promote its smooth running .
Then, what is on earth an unfavorable pond? The unfavorable pond is the pond which is shallow in depth, which is hard to stabilize water temperature under the irLfluence of changes in water temperature, and which requires a frequent exchange of water to prevent the old water from getting turbid with the rise of water temperature. A good growth of the koi can't be expected in such a pond, and at the same time the koi is urged expose itself to diseases.
