Nishikigoi is an easy-to-keep pet. You don't have to worry about that it might die if it is not taken care of every day, and that it can't be possible to keep it in a small pond.

Nishikigoi should be provided with special food, but it can survive without food for one week or two at longest. It is strong enough to allow you to take a trip. Nishikigoi has a high degree of adaptability to its living environment, so it doesn't take time until it acclimates itself to a new environment.

There is no need to prepare for a large garden. You can easily keep it in such a small pond as is 3.3m2 in size or in a tempered plastic aquarium (FRP) set up in the balcony. The use of a glass aquarium for tropical fish causes no problem. It is attractive enough to be part of interior decoration.

Nishikigoi can live in almost any types of water by adapting itself to a wide range of water temperature and water quality as long as a sudden change doesn't occur. Nishikigoi which can live both in a low water temperature of 5｡C and in a high water temperature of nearly 35｡C is regarded as a pet which is loved by many people of all over the world.

The name of Nishikigoi, which is native to Japan, is now very familiar to all the people in the world. Its life expectancy is said to be seventy if the keeping works well. The koi will make a good pet as your lifetime company.

There are lots of fun in the koi keeping. To begin with, it is fun to see the Nishikigoi grow. The koi you start with when it is just 10cm long makes a giant koi 70cm long in a few years. This is a matter of course for the koi. You can understand it from an expression that "Nishikigoi is a growing beauty."

Now it is not a time when we doubt the existence of a 90cm-long-koi. Nishikigoi is making gradual but steady progress owing to breeders' technique and enthusiasm.

Subsequently, Nishikigoi has various varieties. Kohaku is one of the typical varieties with the combination of red and white. Among others are Taisho Sanshoku and Showa Sanshoku with the combination of red, white and black. The rest of them amounts to twenty or so. Some of them are too rare to be found another. Even among the variety of Kohaku is not a single koi with the same pattern. No pet is so rich in variety as Nishikigoi.

Even if you put a new koi to live together with old koi in a pond or an aquarium, it quickly makes friends with the others, swims in harmony with them as if it were one of their old companies, and eats food without causing any troubles between them. If you stand still by the pond and watch the peaceful, elegant swimming behavior of the koi, you will be free from stress.
